Twin Towers!
SCG America was impressed with the Westin Anaheim Resort completed in 2020 and asked me to join them as the Sr. Director of Construction on their $400M resort hotel development. Represented the Owner to guide the team during the 1-year Preconstruction phase. Interest rates postponed project start until 2025. But this will be one of the largest projects built in Orange County in future years.

Legacy project located in Del Mar CA, Papa Doug Manchester wanted to create his crowning achievement at the Del Mar Grand golf course. The result was award-winning Golf Clubhouse that could meet these high expectations. A luxurious golf club house with amazing views that also included pro shop, dining facilities, bars, full kitchen, and meeting facilities on site. Built in 2006 for a construction value of $35M.
UC Merced x2
As part of JV with Balfour Beatty and Sundt, pursued the $1.4B campus expansion located at UC Merced, a full design-build-finance proposal. Construction was phased over 5 years in 2016 and included 14 new buildings requiring phased logistics plans to deliver the buildings in sequence per the University RFP. I developed all of the operations, plans, schedules, and staffing for this iconic project.
Play Ball!
$105M Stadium Renovation was completed while maintaining stadium operations for the entire 1997 baseball season. Also, a late $7 Million kid's interactive area was added with just 4 months until opening day. This was completed within same schedule earning a $1 Million incentive bonus
801 Batman Tower
"Holy Gothic Design Batman". In the early scenes of the movie Batman Forever (1993), the 801 Tower project's exterior detailing, public art, and fence enclosures were used as featured backdrops as Two-Face (Tommy Lee Jones) tries to escape capture from Batman (Val Kilmer)
A Fitting Tribute
As part of the Ribbon Cutting ceremony for Bachelor Enlisted Quarters BEQ #7 at San Mateo site, the Secretary of the Navy renamed the project site after a fallen Marine Lance Corporal Hogan. Photo above is with his Father who accepted the award for him
All-Hands on Deck!
The ground-breaking ceremony at Ten Fifty B Street Affordable Housing tower was part of a significant effort by the City to increase number of available units for those of low income. Project team joins hands for this important project (later winning many awards)
1 More Floor Please
During construction of UCSD North Campus Housing, the Chancellor decided the views were too amazing not to take advantage, and requested 1 floor be "added" to the previously 13-Story building (concrete was up to 11th floor). Thus, a "14th floor" was added and the project was STILL delivered on time
Historic!
Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego was built on land with existing historic buildings. We salvaged demolished materials from the old existing Train Depot and incorporated into construction. This now functions as the Lobby Bar (shown in picture), and included $1 Million of recycled materials
Like a Glove!!
One of largest steel framed iconic dome structures on a commercial or public project; this dome crowns the New Central Library in San Diego 140' high, and was built using 4D modeling with 7 separate sail structures carefully fabricated and set-in-place to create the overall framework for the dome.
First Impressions!
The main central 6 story atrium lobby at the Grand Californian Hotel includes a rich blend of artistic detailing and makes quite a dramatic statement. Built over a schedule of 5 months was valued at $14 Million including stone floor with 350 water-jet cut floral patterns, massive faux timber trusses built in a 3D model, with 4 chandeliers made of 150 components. Check In to the hotel... to check it out!
Right On Target!
From only conceptual information, napkin sketches, and various renderings and dreams, a Conceptual Estimate of $107 Million was developed broken down into 27 revenue items for a budget analysis of Anaheim Stadium Renovation. Final Cost at project completion was $105 Million which included a Value Engineering List of $15 Million (75 items). Calling All Angels!
Risk Management!
From 2001 to 2005 working for Turner Corporation risk management operations group, traveled a total of 57,000 Miles visiting a total of 36 cities in the United States and reviewing 75 different projects under construction; thus analyzing project risks, budgets, schedules, constructability issues, and also developing and collecting a series of Best Practices
Nice Finish!
Bachelor Enlisted Quarters (BEQ) Package #4 was the only BEQ out of 10 separate packages awarded between 2008 to 2011 to finish per the Original Contract Date, giving the Marines deployed overseas and fighting for our country a brand-new home worthy of their efforts! Thank You!

Throw Out First Pitch!
News at 11. Local News taking interviews before the opening day baseball game series against SDSU Aztecs in 2013. I was honored to talk about the project, and later in the series had the privilege of throwing out the First Pitch in the brand-new USD Baseball Park....

Lights, Camera, Action!
During a 6 month period, I was deeply involved in 5 separate renovation projects on the back lot of Warner Brothers Studios including Sound Stage, Commissary, and Admin Building. Mingled with movie stars, was an "extra" in the movie sets, and sometime construction was stopped if the Director said.... "Cut!"
Make It Affordable!
3 Projects featured above added a total of 547 Affordable Rental Units to the downtown area of San Diego to help meet the critical goals of creating affordable housing for qualifying low income families. A very impactful statement to the future of San Diego communities in 3 separate deals over a 4 year time span!
Major League Bound
Senior All-Star 3rd Basemen for the University of San Diego Torreros Kris Bryant enjoyed his senior season in the newly renovated $13 Million Baseball Park on the campus. Kris went on to be the #2 Overall Draft Pick by the Chicago Cubs and appeared in the MLB playoffs and All-Star game in his rookie season!
Land of Disney
Grand Californian Hotel had many challenges including 27 separate contract milestones that were achieved. This included early move-ins in various areas, releasing land for Grizzly Peak ride, training/stocking TCO, Monorail restart, Downtown Disney deck delivery, Early Conference Center completion, and infrastructure for a future 250 Room Expansion
IIT Infantry Training Facility
Led preconstruction efforts on the proposed development Infantry Immersion Training (IIT) facility for the government. This is a facility that simulates different atmospheric environments, day/night, and temperatures. The buildings contain reconstruction of foreign lands, buildings, streets, and other simulations to help training of the Marines... Oorah!
Mega Hotel Ballpark Village
Led preconstruction efforts for the proposed Ballpark Marriott Hotel project in San Diego, consisting of 1,200 Room twin tower $600 Million development adjacent to Petco Park. Efforts included budgets, 85 Staff project plan, schedule, and logistics plans. Later, this same parcel became the Ballpark Village residential project with JMI/Greystar which I helped to win/secure for former company
Largest Hole in SF History
Led all preconstruction efforts for the 42-Story 500 Folsom project in Downtown San Francisco. This $240 Million project was 10 months in Precon and included a 7-level underground garage making it the deepest hole ever proposed on a downtown project in the City. Extensive planning and schedule efforts were involved with the design-team and subcontractors for this iconic building
Apple for the Teacher
Became a Certified Trainer for Turner on variety of critical operations topics including Quality Control, Change Orders, Risk Management, Profit Enhancement, and Engineering. Completed a total of 75+ training classes throughout the nation on critical operations topics
CM Training Program
Provided support to local businesses in San Diego with Turner's "Lead-Off" class for the Construction Management training program. Program offered twice a year for 7 years from 2007-2014 to help small and minority-owned businesses understand the basics of project set-up and planning.
